Crèche and Sunday School

The Sunday School meets on Sunday mornings each week during school term times. Normally Sunday school and crèche leave the service after the worship time, and go to their classes. The crèche normally meets in the rear hall and kitchen area, and the Sunday school in the house next door. (86 Victoria St.) This building is owned by the church and also is used by The Mustard Seed Book Shop. Sunday school classes are arranged in varying age groups from between Primary 1 and Secondary 1.

The teaching material used is from the Scripture Union SALT series of books and worksheets with activities relating to different age groups. Sunday School teachers, led by Daphne Tait, are volunteers from the church members and adherents.

There are usually enough teachers to allow a rotation of duty in monthly intervals to avoid teachers missing out on services for more than one month at a time.

During the summer break, the church normally holds family services.

Other family services are also held at Christmas, Easter and Harvest Thanksgiving. Optional crèche facilities are usually provided at family services. At the end of June a Sunday school prize giving service is held, when books are presented to children for attendance at Sunday School during the year.

Junior Christian Endeavour

Christian Endeavour is an international, interdenominational organisation for children and young people. CE's motto is "For Christ and the Church" and its aims are to teach young people about the Christian gospel and help them grow into the future leaders of the church. CE does this by basing the weekly meetings around participation by everyone who comes. So instead of the adults doing all the talking, the children are encouraged to take part. That could be by chairing the meeting, choosing songs, leading in prayer, doing a quiz or Bible reading or by taking part in the main theme of the evening (referred to as the "topic"). CE isn't all serious though and we often have games and activities as well as more formal Christian teaching. Weekly CE meetings are open to children in primary 3 to secondary 1 (approx. aged 7-12). We also hold a CE camp each summer. Contact Muriel Drever on 01856 873465 for more details

Senior Christian Endeavour

Senior Christian Endeavour is the main youth get-together for young people of secondary age and above. Meetings are in the Church Building every Friday during school terms from 8.00 pm to 9.45 pm. The format involves chatting, singing, learning, discussing, praying, eating, drinking, mobile phoning, texting, and generally messing about.

Contact Steven Rendall on 01856 877275 or Marion Rendall on 01856 874003 for more details. There are also games nights on a Saturday evening and informal get-togethers on Sunday evenings after the evening service.
